Turquoise Coast
Fethiye & Oludeniz
Paragliding, Blue Lagoon & the gulet sailing capital
Oludeniz's Blue Lagoon is the photo every Turkey traveler knows — a perfect crescent of turquoise water hemmed in by pine cliffs. Above it, Babadag (1,960 m) is one of the world's top three paragliding peaks, with tandem flights running every 20 minutes in season. Nearby Fethiye is the launchpad for 4-day Blue Cruises along the Lycian coast.

Everything you need to know about Fethiye & Oludeniz
Why Fethiye and Oludeniz feel like a different country
The Turquoise Coast around Fethiye is the postcard-Mediterranean: pine-forested mountains dropping into turquoise bays, the famous Blue Lagoon at Oludeniz, paragliders launching from Babadag mountain almost continuously through the season, and the 540-kilometre Lycian Way trail starting just behind your hotel. Add ancient Lycian rock tombs carved into cliff faces, the Saklikent canyon and a sailing scene that runs from gulet day-trips to luxury blue cruises along the coast to Olympos. It is the part of Turkey that travellers tend to remember most vividly, especially honeymooners.
When is the best time to visit Fethiye-Oludeniz
Late April-June and September-October. Summer (July-August) is hot, crowded and the gulet boats are full but the sea is at its very best. The paragliding season is May-October with the most reliable thermals from June to early September. Winter is closed for almost all hotels and boat operators — the season starts properly in mid-April.
How to get to Fethiye-Oludeniz
The nearest airport is Dalaman (DLM), 50 minutes by transfer to Fethiye and 70 minutes to Oludeniz. Dalaman has direct flights from Istanbul (1h 25m) and seasonal European routes. Antalya airport is a 3.5-hour transfer if you are doing a longer Mediterranean loop and want to drive the Lycian coast road in stages.
Where to stay in Fethiye and Oludeniz
Oludeniz village is right at the Blue Lagoon — the best paragliding-launch views, the busiest beach and the most concentrated hotel strip. Hisaronu and Ovacik are 5 minutes uphill, quieter and cheaper. Calis Beach is the long sandy beach next to Fethiye town with a more local-Turkish feel and the best sunset views in the area. Kayakoy (the abandoned Greek village) and Faralya (cliff-top boutique hotels above Butterfly Valley) are for travellers who want something more secluded and special.
What to do beyond the Blue Lagoon
Paragliding from Babadag (1,960m) is the bucket-list experience — we book with the operators who have the best safety record and English-speaking pilots. The 12 Islands gulet day trip is the classic Fethiye Bay sailing experience with five or six swim stops. The Butterfly Valley boat trip is unmissable for an afternoon snorkel and waterfall walk. For active travellers we plan a Saklikent canyon day, a kayak over the sunken city of Kekova, or two-three days of Lycian Way walking with luggage transfer.
Combining Fethiye-Oludeniz with the rest of Turkey
Most travellers add Fethiye-Oludeniz as a 3-4 night beach finale at the end of a Turkey loop — Istanbul -> Cappadocia -> Ephesus -> Pamukkale -> Fethiye -> direct flight home from Dalaman. For honeymooners we often build a private gulet 4-day blue cruise from Fethiye to Olympos. Self-drivers can do the whole Lycian coast in a week, stopping at Kas, Kalkan, Patara and Olympos along the way.
When to go
Late April-June and September-October — warm sea, paragliding-ready thermals and bearable temperatures. Most hotels and boats close from mid-November to mid-April.
Getting there
Fly Istanbul to Dalaman (DLM, 1h 25m), then 50-70 minutes by transfer to Fethiye or Oludeniz. Antalya airport is also possible via a 3.5-hour Mediterranean coastal drive.
